ULTRAPIEGA
Anonima Castelli presents ULTRAPIEGA, an instinctive gesture born not from a design but from a folded sheet of paper that becomes three-dimensional.
Spalvieri & Del Ciotto and Anonima Castelli envision it as a sculptural object you can sit on, one that rebels against the exclusive cult of rational functionality, echoing in its very name a radical spirit: ironic, oversized, extremely simple yet conceptual at the same time.
With ULTRAPIEGA, Anonima Castelli returns to the essence of its corporate culture—its pioneering vision that has shaped a history marked by products introducing truly innovative design alongside cutting-edge technical solutions and materials.
Anticonformist and experimental, it is the first step of a new direction projected into the future, while preserving the design courage that has made Anonima Castelli’s collections so relevant, widespread, and beloved.
A manifesto product in which design coincides with process, where the concept of “ultra” also expresses the will to go beyond the two-dimensional nature of a sheet that becomes three-dimensional furniture thanks to a simple production technology—the folding of a metal sheet pushed to its limits.
ULTRAPIEGA is a hybrid form that goes beyond the chair, allowing multiple ways of sitting: a device that engages the body freely, enabling different user experiences and triggering a short circuit between aesthetics and efficiency.
In contrast to the rigor of folded metal, the large perforations scattered across the surface become a playful texture that enhances its graphic character and identity. Versatile in use, it is also suitable for outdoor environments
“ULTRAPIEGA is born from an instinctive gesture: folding a sheet, cutting into it, allowing form to emerge. A single plane takes shape through cuts and folds, generating structure, comfort, and a sculptural presence. Within this process, impulse and control coexist, immediacy and long time. It is in slowness and reflection that the project finds balance, like a precisely crafted origami. Designing for Anonima Castelli means engaging with a legacy of icons; hence the pursuit of a clear, sharp sign where technique and form coincide.” — Spalvieri & Del Ciotto
To present ULTRAPIEGA, Anonima Castelli chooses the Triennale Milano, historically a place of avant-garde and modernity.
In the Garden setting, the CASA ULTRAPIEGA installation, designed by Spalvieri & Del Ciotto, takes on a symbolic value, expressing an idea in continuity with Anonima Castelli’s journey, where technical research generates formal identity.
The structure draws the elementary silhouette of a house and supports the seats through a system of cables: the aluminium frame defines space and makes construction legible, creating a tension that keeps the chairs suspended.
Strength and control thus become visible parts of the installation, bringing industrial structure and domestic dimension into dialogue, suggesting a new paradigm of space and relationship with its inhabitants.
